Gene Donally Chappell passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was born in Surry County, VA to the late Velma Grubbs Chappell and Donally Faulcon Chappell.

Gene is survived by his sister Patricia Shockley; nephew Ken Shockley; nieces, Debra Gelner (Gene), Shelly Dvorak (Brian), Kristy Rudy (Greg); 10 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Sophie.

Gene was a very gentle man that loved nature and all animals. He had a kind spirit and was the best brother, uncle or friend anyone could ask for. He will be missed.

The family visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Monday, May 9, 2022 at 1:00 PM in Peninsula Memorial Park.
