On March 9th, 2024, Gary L. Sawning, 73, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly.  He was born in Norfolk, on 1/20/1951, to Ann and Clifford Sawning, Sr.

Gary attended Kellam High School and went on to work as a land surveyor, and an electrician at Newport News Shipbuilding.  He retired as the Director of Plant Engineering at Williamsburg Place and Farley Center in Williamsburg. He was a devoted husband and father.

Gary was a man with unlimited energy.  He enjoyed golfing, surfing, sailing, fishing, camping and biking.  He knew how to fix anything and was always working on new projects to build.  But more than anything, he loved music, and he loved playing the guitar.  A relentless jokester with a dry sense of humor and a quick wit, he filled our days with love and laughter.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Little; his parents, Ann and Clifford Sawning, Sr.; and his in-laws, David and Laura Irby.  He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth; his children, Gary Sawning, Jr. (Lee), Jason Sawning and Laura Sauers (Matthew); his grandchildren, Annemarie Sostre (Joseph), Riley (Samantha Lagoda), Reanna and Trevor Sawning, Canaan, Naomi and Judah Sauers, Aiden Little and Jacob Sawning, and was looking forward to the birth of his first great-granddaughter.  He is also survived by his brother Cliff Sawning, Jr. (Theresa), Bill and Bonnie Templeton, Dawn Irby, his nieces Crystal and Christina Sawning, Letha Sawning (Charles), and many cousins.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out and supported the family. We invite friends and family to join us in a Celebration of Life for Gary on April 13th at 1:00 PM at Liberty Live at York River, 8201 Croaker Road,Williamsburg, VA 23188.

and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy
away from you."   John 16:22
