Frederick Oliver Way, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He was born on November 22, 1931 in Jefferson County, WV.

After serving in the Navy, he graduated from Shepherd College. He married Margaret "Billie" Lawton in 1957 and was a devoted husband to her for over 63 years. He was a loving father to their four daughters, Judy Cowley (David), Jean Austin (Rob), Laura Piland (Kent), and Ann Christopher (Phil). He was Pappy to Grace, Andrew (Amy), and John Cowley, Clarke and Jack Austin, Susan and Trey Piland, and Victoria and Seth Christopher. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Hinman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Oliver Way, Sr. and Frances Way; and sisters, Margaret and Doris.

He worked at Newport News Shipbuilding as a Contracts Analyst, retiring in 1993. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and volunteering at his church, First United Methodist in Newport News, where he and Billie were active members for many years.

Everyone who knew him will remember him as a kind, gentle man who loved his family.

The family wants to thank those who cared for Fred at the end of his life, especially the compassionate and kind people of Mennowood and Grace Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Mennowood Foundation or First United Methodist Church in Newport News (c/o Kevin Wilson) would honor Fred's memory.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Newport News.
