Obituary

Estelle Renfro Westall, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the age of 89 in her long-time hometown of Newport News, Virginia.
Born in Yancey County, North Carolina, on January 23, 1936, to John and Pearl Renfro, Estelle was one of 9 children. Later, Estelle carried the warmth and spirit of her mountain home with her when she moved with her husband to Newport News in 1955. She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and was known for her skillful hand as a seamstress.
Estelle was a long-time member of Hilton Baptist Church. She had a lifelong passion for people, often spending her time taking care of children and the elderly. She loved to socialize with her best friends Bettie and Shirlene, especially while enjoying Bluegrass music. She was known among family and friends as an avid shopper and meticulous dresser. Estelle's tenacious spirit and generous heart touched everyone who knew her.
Estelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Robert Lee Westall, and her daughter Linda Westall Lovell.
Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her family. Estelle is survived by daughter Kathy Westall Ayers (James Ayers Sr., deceased), as well as her only living sibling, Keith Renfro (Janet). Estelle was a proud and devoted grandmother to Nathalie Padilla (Jack), James Ayers Jr., Victoria Hardisty (Steven), and Jordan Lovell. Her legacy continues to bloom through her 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-children. Estelle also had many nieces, nephews and friends whom she considered family, including Judy and Jerry Brill.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Newport Post Acute Skilled Nursing Facility and Riverside Hospice for their care and devotion in the last few months of Estelle's life.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 1 p.m. at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia.  The service will be officiated by Pastor Lynwood Wells. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at the funeral home.
