Obituary

An eternal rose without thorns but always showing forth fragrant beauty and unselfish kindness to all. That is a very small picture of her loving life which showed forth from every thought, word, and action Elizabeth ever had. All who met her knew they had been greeted by an especially gracious lady. When entering her home everyone felt at ease and surrounded by loving warmth. Her skills in sewing, cooking, and volunteering at Riverside Hospital helped many to appreciate her loving kindness. It is somewhat impossible to sum up the life of such a wonderful and humble lady of grace and beauty who always put the needs and desires of her family first. But the many who knew her through the years will echo these same words and more. This is a small picture of a life well lived in loving service to The Triune God and her neighbors (Matthew 22:34-40 and 1 John 4:7-21).

Now the basic facts: Born on 27 July 1945 in Hampton, VA to her fabulous parents, Ida and Raymond Saunders. She passed from this world into her eternal home on 4 June 2022 (John 14:1-6). Survived by her sister Gloria Holland (Ronnie) and sister-in-law Joyce Drummond (Ray, Jr.) and predeceased by her parents as well as her brother Ray, Jr. Family members left to cherish her memory are Frank, her husband of 57 years; her children, Doug (Lisa Ann) and Kristie Herod (Ned); as well as 10 grandchildren(5 Satchells - Courtney Johnson (Matt), Zach (Abby), Noah, Garret James, and Colin; 5 Herods - Darby Lehning (Clay), Cole, Carson, Lizzie, and Bennett); and two great-grandchildren (Nora Johnson and Jack Lehning).
