Earl Richard
Seltzer
Oct 30, 1932 — Jan 8, 2021
"Bud" Seltzer, as he was commonly called by his family and friends, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home (Morningside of Williamsburg) on January 8, 2021. He was born the second son of five children (three boys, two girls) to Leroy and Edith Seltzer in Lebanon County, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and his wife of 56 years. He is survived by his three sons, Michael Earl Seltzer (Karis) of Lenexa, VA, Gary Lee Seltzer (Jeanie) of Gloucester, VA, Barry David Seltzer (Sharon) of Suffolk, VA, sister Eloise Seltzer Queen (Ken) of Annvile, PA, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Bud completed his education and joined the United States Air Force in 1951 with his friend John Fetter in PA. It was during this time, while he was stationed at Langley Air Force Base as part of the 85th Bomb Squad, that he met the love of his life, Phyllis Dunn, at a church function. They were married in 1955 after an honorable discharge from service.
After marriage, they moved back to Lebanon County for a couple years, but they ended up back on the Peninsula in Newport News, VA, to raise their young family.
Dad started his shipbuilding career at Newport News Shipbuilding in 1960. Because of his strong honest morals and hard work ethics, he was able to solidify his place in the shipbuilding profession. He retired as a General Foreman in the X36 Riggers Department in 1992. To this day, he is known for his large presence and his word of truth. If he said it was going to be done, it was done. His handshake was his word.
It was the same truth and morals that he passed to his sons. While it was Mom that was the glue, the hard work ethics was Dad. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed fishing, travel, camping, outdoor activities, nature and friends.
He lived a good long life and is now reunited in spirit with his family.
Earl "Bud" Seltzer, will be buried beside his wife with military honors at Peninsula Memorial Park. This will be a private limited family gathering due to the times we are in.
Please, in lieu of flowers, make contributions in the name of Earl Seltzer with the Alzheimer's Association at 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
