Obituary

Dora Horgan Caroccia, 97 years young, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024. Born in London, England, she grew up in Ballyheigue, County Kerry, Ireland. She was the second oldest of 7 children born to Martin and Deborah Horgan. She grew up on her family's farm that has been in her family for over 150 years. She always longed for travel and ultimately moved from Ireland to the United States. Her adventures began in London at the young age of 18. Many of her siblings also moved to the UK, so she would visit them often in Derby, England. With the help of her sister, Margaret, and brother-in-law, George, she was able to move to the United States, making one of her dreams come true. She met her husband, Frank Caroccia, shortly after moving to New York while working as a waitress on an Air Force base. They traveled to many duty stations in over 20 years of service in the Air Force. She was fortunate to have lived such a long and fulfilling life with a feisty spirit, loving her family, cooking the best fried chicken and chicken parmesan, and tending to her garden into her nineties.

She is survived by her husband Frank Caroccia; daughters, Carolyn Ruby (Sam) and Patricia Caroccia; four grandchildren, Christopher Ruby (Stephanie Clark), Lindsay Kidd (Paul), Erica Park (Tyler), and Catherine Ruby (Christina Porta); four great-grandchildren, Levi and Everett Kidd, and Wyatt and Sadie Park; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Deborah Horgan; her sisters, Mary O'Sullivan, Ann Swain and Margaret Roundy; her brother-in-law George Roundy; nephew Ethan Long; and her brothers, Mort Horgan, Brendan Horgan and Christy Horgan.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home from 6-7:00 PM. Burial will be private.
