Donna Pinkett Seymore, age 75, went to be with Jesus on November 1, 2026. She peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home at her residence after a six-month battle with cancer and heart complications. She was born on January 3, 1951, in Newport News, Virginia, and graduated from Warwick High School.
In 1971, Donna married Donald J. Seymore. During the early years of their marriage, she worked in various positions while Don completed college and seminary and they started their family. She began her career as a typist at the Daily Press in Newport News, followed by positions in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Dillwyn, Virginia, before working in Records at Goochland Women's Prison in Goochland, Virginia.
Donna later dedicated 31 years of service to the VA Hospital system, working in both Perryville, Maryland, and Hampton, Virginia. Throughout her career, she served in a variety of secretarial and administrative roles across several departments, including time share, urology, spinal cord, psychiatry, audiology, and rehabilitation medicine. At the time of her retirement, she served as a Health Benefits Advisor at the VA Hospital in Hampton.
Donna's love for Jesus was evident throughout her life. She participated in numerous mission trips and prayer journeys to Asia and Israel and found great joy in serving alongside her husband throughout his years as a pastor. Together, they served at Cypress Baptist Chapel in Seven Paths, North Carolina; Mt. Zion Baptist Church in New Canton, Virginia; First Baptist Church of Perryville, Maryland; and Yorkminster Baptist Church in Yorktown, Virginia.
Over the years, Donna especially enjoyed teaching preschool Sunday School, singing in the church choir, and opening her home each Christmas for a large Christmas Open House. In more recent years, she passionately devoted herself to the Shoebox Ministry through Operation Christmas Child at Liberty Live Church in Hampton, Virginia, where she was an active member.
Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Rev. Donald J. Seymore; her parents, Jack William Pinkett and Frances Elizabeth Henley of Newport News; her sister, Debbie Pinkett Hewett of Shallotte, North Carolina; and her three brothers, Bobby, Jimmy, and Jackie Pinkett, all of Newport News.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane L. Buckner (J. Robert) of Starkville, Mississippi, and Carol S. Chase (Douglas) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and eight grandchildren, Judah, John Paul, Samuel, and Micah Buckner, and Asher, Zeke, Ira, and Stephen Chase. She is also survived by her brother, Dwight Pinkett (Selene) of Newport News; her aunt, Susie Henley of Newport News; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Donna's life will be held Friday, November 6, at Liberty Live Church (Chapel), 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Virginia. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
