Donald Wyatt Sheene, 88, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He was born in Moreland, Kentucky, on December 12, 1933.

After high school graduation in 1952, he joined the U.S. Navy and honorably served until 1956. Moving to Newport News, he worked 35 years at Newport News Shipbuilding. Don loved the Lord; was baptized as a teenager; he was a faithful servant his entire life. He loved his Menchville Baptist Church family.

Gardening brought him much joy, caring for the land, planting, harvesting, canning and sharing the bounty with friends and neighbors. He spent over 60 years perfecting his organic garden skills.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Phila; parents, Willie and Lillie Sheene; and his brothers, Gene, George, Grady, Kenneth, and Dallas.

He is survived by his son Glenn Sheene (Clara); his granddaughter Cayce Jade; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Monday, February 21, 2022 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held and burial with military honors will be at Hampton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peninsula Rescue Mission or to Menchville Baptist Chuirch - Children and Families Ministry.
