Ret/SFC Donald E. Savage, age 65, transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Ahava Healthcare in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his mother & father, Dorothy & Richard Savage, Sr., and his brother, Milton Savage.

Donald was born on August 4, 1957 in Halifax County, North Carolina, and he later moved to Newport News where he grew up with his family and attended Newport News Public Schools. As a 1975 graduate of Menchville High School, Donald volunteered for military service and protected his country in the US Army for 22 years. He served three tours to Germany, one to Korea, and continued his duties in the states at military installations, Ft. Stewart & Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Lewis, WA, and Ft. Campbell, KY where he ultimately retired. Upon being honorably discharged, Donald was employed with A. O. Smith Water Products Company where he retired from his civilian career after more than 19 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Sheila Fox Savage of Clarksville, TN; a loving daughter, Dontrice LaFay of Charlotte, NC; five sisters, Mattie Bacon (James) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Doris Cutchin (Harry Cutchin, dec) of Atlanta, GA, Shirley Bland (Tim), Barbara Wilson, and Felicia Pittman (Christopher) all of Newport News; one brother, Richard "Ricky" Savage, Jr. (Dorothy) of Yorktown, VA; brothers-in-law, Chris Fox (Vairy), Rodney Fox, Reginald Fox (Antonia), Kevin Fox; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. A very special thank you to the staff at Ahava Healthcare of Clarksville, TN and Avalon Hospice.

Mr. Savage will lie in state on Friday, September 23, 2022 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home from 12:00-7:00PM, and the family will greet friends from 6:00-7:00PM. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Cornerstone Worship Center in Hampton, VA. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
