Donald Lee Metzger, 88, of Hampton, Virginia passed away peacefully November 29, 2024. A beloved husband, father, grandpa, and PopPop, Donald (Don) will always be remembered for the loving and generous man that he was.

Born February 11, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, Don grew up with three sisters and a brother before joining the Navy and moving to Virginia. Don was a long time member and deacon at Parkview Baptist Church, and more recently was attending Denbigh Christian Church. He also enjoyed building, working on and driving race cars, camping, and just spending time with his family.

Don spent much of his life as a welder, he was a hard worker and proud of what he did. He was a welder in the Navy, then at the naval shipyard, and at his own small business after work hours.

On September 3, 1960 Don married the love of his life, Gloria Robison Metzger. They shared a loving relationship that lasted 64 years and yielded two children, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother William Metzger; and sisters Joyce Metzger and Ruth Pigoni.

Don is survived by his wife Gloria Metzger; daughters, Karen Murray (Bill), Yvonne Neff (Pete); grandchildren, Mark, David, Katherine, Amanda, Naomi, Brandon; as well as great-grandchildren, Dylan, Sunny, Ameliah, Baylee, Wesley, Sadie, Oaklynn, Parker, Easton, Rob, and Emerson; and sister Cathie Reilly.

Services will be held at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Viewing is Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 6 to 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 10 AM.  All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children in his name, a charity that Don himself supported for many years.
