Donald "Dobbie"
Dobbs
d. Jun 6, 2026
Colorado Springs
Donald David "Dobbie" Dobbs, passed away in his sleep, at his home, in Colorado Springs, CO.
Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Donald grew up as a self-described "military brat."
His childhood and younger years took him to places near and far, including the Philippines, Germany, Colorado Springs, Houston, Hampton, and Arlington. The many places he lived and the people he loved throughout his life, undoubtedly helped shape his uniquely unorthodox personality.
Don spent much of his professional life in the security industry, but one of his greatest talents could be found in the extraordinary models he built. A gifted and meticulous craftsman, Don possessed an incredible ability to create detailed World War II models, carefully constructing each one down to the finest specification. His work earned recognition in international, national, and regional model-building competitions, some even being displayed in museums.
A true lover of music, Don was rarely happier than when he was strumming his guitar, singing with heartfelt enthusiasm - sometimes perfectly off-tone but always with immense joy.
Donnie will also be remembered for being an excellent cook and zealous conversationalist. He had the "gift of gab" and could happily talk for hours about history, politics, firearms, music, his family and his models. He famously had corny jokes at the best and worst times, eager to share with anyone willing to listen—and probably a few people who weren't.
His daily life was marked by the unwavering companionship of his BFF, Maxxie, who never left his side.
Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Mildred Guydos; his father, Theodore Dobbs; his parents, Col. (Ret) Frank & Patricia Capone; his sisters, Vicki Panora & Kim Levi; and his beloved dog, Peiper.
Donnie is survived by brother, Mike Capone and brother-in-law Michael Levi; his nephews, Erny & Jamin Moore and Sean Capone; his nieces, Stephanie Allen and Magan Galvan; and his faithful companion, Maxxie.
It seems especially fitting that our family learned Donnie left this world on June 6—the anniversary of D-Day. For a man with such a deep appreciation for World War II history, we believe he would have been more than a little pleased with the significance of the date.
A graveside service for "The Dobbfather" will be held Friday, July 17th at 1:00 pm., at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23606.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society in his honor.
