Obituary

Debra "Debby" Corey, age 75, passed away on July 27, 2026. She was born in Newport News, Virginia on March 29, 1951.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orvel W. Patrick; her mother, Mary Christine Patrick; her brothers, Orvel "Jake" Patrick Jr., Donald Lee Patrick, James "Jimmy" Patrick, and William "Bill" Patrick; her sisters, Judith Patrick, Mary Jane Halstead and Brenda Halstead; and her nephew, Verlin "Lenny" Smith.

Debby is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 53 years, Harold "Ray" Corey Jr.; her daughter, Amy Piggott (Shaun) of Newport News; and her son, Harold "Rocky" Corey (Amanda) of Neptune Beach, Florida.

She is also survived by her nine cherished grandchildren: Katelynn, Shaun Jr., Corey, Benjamin, Ryan, Jeremiah, Andrew, Kaylah and Nate. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who were very special to her and six sisters-in-law.

Debby was a devoted wife to Ray and faithfully supported him throughout his military career. She spent much of her time raising their children, creating a loving and stable home through the many moves and challenges that military life brought. She was incredibly proud of her children and was always there whenever they needed her.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Debby loved spoiling them and made sure each one knew just how special they were to her.

Debby shared a very special bond with many of her nieces and nephews. She always made sure they felt safe, loved, and cared for.

She treasured the lifelong friendships she built throughout her childhood and high school years and remained in close contact with many of those friends. She also formed lasting friendships during her years as a military wife. She always looked forward to talking with her friends and hearing about their families and lives.

After her children left home, Debby enjoyed spending time going to yard sales and shopping for her grandchildren. If you knew Debby then you know she loved a good joke and making people laugh and smile. Debby will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Debby's life at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, August 1. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
