Obituary

Carol Midkiff Munn, 77, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025.

Carol was born in Hampton, VA to Raymond and Grace Midkiff and lived in the city of Hampton her entire life. She attended Hampton High School where she graduated in 1966. Carol's caring spirit touched countless lives, from her years as a devoted school bus driver for Hampton Public Schools where she safely transported kindergarteners and Bethel High School cheerleaders to their many destinations, retiring from her bus in 2001. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, as she was a steadfast member of her church family at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, VA, since the age of four. Carol was a dedicated Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for preschool and children's ministry serving faithfully for many years. The last 22 years of Carol's life were made possible by the selfless donation of a heart in 2003. As a grateful heart transplant recipient, she even displayed March 31 on her license plate to commemorate this important gift of life that she received.

Carol was a devoted wife to John, her husband of 56 years, and a caring and loving mother to her two children, Scott and Angela. One of Carol's greatest joys in life was being called "Grammy" to her three grandsons, Jake, Luke, and Micah.

As Grammy, she participated in all aspects of her grandsons' lives, from school pickups to attending their sports and activities over the years. Carol looked forward to spending family vacations in the Outer Banks and going to the pool in the summer with her children and grandchildren. She never met a stranger and her family liked to joke with her that she "always took her fun with her" wherever she went, and you could always hear her coming!

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Midkiff and her mother, Grace Midkiff, both of Hampton her brother, Dick Martin, of Newport News, her sister, Rita Davis, and her brother-in-law, Bobby Davis, of Hampton, and her son-in-law, David Bailey, of Newport News. Carol is survived by her husband, John Munn, her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Melanie Munn, her daughter, Angela Bailey, and her three precious grandchildren, Jake Munn, Luke Munn, and Micah Bailey, who will never forget the fun and love she brought to their lives.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Liberty Live in Hampton, VA. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either LifeNet Health or to Samaritan's Purse in her memory.
