Calvin "Ray" Barnes passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in Newport News, Virginia. Ray was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, but was a long-time resident of Newport News.

Ray served in the US Air Force for four years and retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding after 42 years.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Norton Barnes of 64 years; his daughter, Debbie Haynes (husband Dennis); his son, Dennis Barnes (wife Regina); his grandsons, Josh (wife Jen), Zach (wife Jess) and Jacob (wife, Savannah); and three great grandsons, Lathan, Silas and Asher (and another expected in August). Ray is also survived by a brother, Roger (wife June); a sister Cathy Remley of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held for Ray at Liberty Baptist Church (chapel) on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow immediately afterwards at Peninsula Memorial Park.
