d. Aug 15, 2023
NEWPORT NEWS

Bettie graduated from Maury High School in 1951, later marrying John L. Young, Jr. at McKendree Methodist Church in 1952.
During their 64-year marriage, John and Bettie raised four children. As the wife of a career US Marine, Bettie and family lived wherever John's assignments took them. After John retired from the Marine Corps in 1980 and entered civil service with the US Army at Fort Monroe, John and Bettie settled in Newport News. Their retirement was highlighted by travel in Europe, long visits to the Outer Banks, and enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bettie was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Newport News. She was preceded in death by her husband Major John L. Young, Jr. US Marine Corps Retired, her parents and her sister Genevieve Morris.
Bettie is survived by her four children, Colonel John L. Young III, US Army Retired and Brenda C. Young, Dr. Theresa Y. Crawley and Dr. William B. Crawley, R. Scott Young and Linda D.
