Betsy Addison Game, 67, of Smithfield, VA, went home to heaven on June 14, 2022, surrounded by the love of family. She was born on July 22, 1954, and spent most of her life in Newport News, VA. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Addison, and her brother, Eddie Addison. Betsy is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Dr. David Game. Their marriage set an example for many in their lives, and he stayed by her side until her passing. She is also survived by her mother, Carolyn Addison, and her sister, Donna Williams. She was the loving mother to Dr. Melissa Game Shipley (Doug), Dr. Alison Game Britton (Kevin), and Aaron Game (Yelena). The joys of her life were her grandchildren, Ryan and Claire Shipley, Leah Grace and Levi Britton, and Mason and Baby Boy Game.
Betsy spent most of her life devoted to raising her children and spending quality time teaching and playing with her grandchildren. She was a preschool teacher for over 20 years at Hidenwood Presbyterian Preschool in Newport News, VA, where she helped many more children begin their educational journey. Her passion in life was in teaching and setting an example of kindness and love to children.
Betsy loved bringing joy and happiness to her family. Her favorite times were spent at home, particularly during holiday gatherings, as well as trips to Disney and the Outer Banks with family and close friends. In the last few weeks of her time with us, she emphasized to her children the importance of continuing her legacy of helping others and to always love the Lord.
The family will gather with friends for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10:30 am at Christopher Newport University's Pope Chapel, with a reception to follow at the David Student Union.
