Obituary

Arthur Manny, 90, peacefully departed this earthly life, finally free from pain with his wife by his side, at the V. A. Hospice Unit in Hampton, Virginia on the morning of April 1, 2024. He was born in New York, where he married and raised a family, eventually moving them to Virginia in the 70's. He served in the U. S. Army for three years, 1951-54, honorably discharged following an injury. Over the years Arthur worked in various fields; deliveries, manufacturing, painting, maintenance, security and management. He worked at the Naval Base, Temple Sinai, Lafayette High School, and numerous other locations on the Peninsula.

Arthur loved his family and friends and loved to joke around, and enjoyed playing cards and dancing. He was a member of Menchville Baptist Church where he enjoyed greeting people and singing out, and often expressed hope to one day be well enough to again meet face to face.

Arthur is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 41 years, children Kathryn Manny (Tom), Barbara Coleman (Bobby), Cynthia McLain (Patrick), and Robert Manny from his first marriage, and bonus children John Eric Evans (Rachel), David Evans (Lisa), and Paul from his marriage to Mary Ann, a brother William Manny; nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his twin sister Ann Doyle, his first wife Joan Martin and both of his parents.

The family is very appreciative of all the support received from friends and care staff. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation in Arthur's name,  we would suggest a donation in his memory to Menchville Baptist Church in Newport News VA, or the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

An 11:00 AM funeral service will take place at Menchville Baptist Church on Monday April 22, 2024. A brief military send off will take place later that day at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA 3:00 PM.

Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
