Ann Thornton Simmons, passed away on April 6, 2025 at the age of 93. Ann was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia with her mother, who was a switchboard operator, and her father, who was a railroad worker.

Ann described herself as a delicate child, she was shy and nervous. Her family always looked after her and she was not required to do any chores growing up. Growing up, Ann looked up to nurses and social workers; she always thought they were strong women.

In Ann's adult life, she was fortunate enough to marry her husband, Joseph. They had four children; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ann enjoyed art, drawing and paper dolls. Her advice to young people was "Do not take yourself too seriously and have some type of plan to take care of yourself and your family."

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 PM Sunday, April 13, 2025 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 14, 2025 in Peninsula Memorial Park.
