Obituary

Aaron W. "AW" Hamrick, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2021 at the age of 83 after a short illness. AW was born in Shelby, NC and has been a resident of Hampton, VA since 1942.

AW retired from C&P Telephone Company as a Supervisor of Special Forces in telecommunications after 32 years of service. During his time with the telephone company, he experienced many changes, working as a lineman in the beginning of his career, being locked down at NASA during the Cuban Crisis, to working with fiber optics towards the end of his career. AW was a natural athlete at anything he tried. His passions however were bowling and golf. He served as President of the Peninsula Industrial Golf League and was inducted into the Virginia Peninsula Bowling Hall of Fame in 1997. He had many 300 games and 800 sets, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. His love of the sport led to his second career of 30+ years at Sparetimes Bowling Center. There he acquired his son he never had, Kevin Morris. He and Kevin solved many of the worldly problems over morning coffee each day. However, his favorite times were spent with his family and dear friends; especially their camping trips to Buggs Island Lake every summer. There the family and dear friends, Terry and Anna Earnhardt, spent summers boating, skiing and watching Anna cook in the rain for more than 20 years. The family promises to carry on this tradition but will miss you dearly! We know heaven acquired another angel on January 26 and Maddie (your best friend forever) and Sunny were there at the rainbow bridge waiting for you to play ball and take them for donuts! You will be watching over us all…we will love you forever!

AW is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly and their faithful companions Chloe and Bella; daughters, Suzanne Cecil (Walter), Vickie Crowe, Lisa Davis (Tim), Nichole Italiano; seven grandchildren, Kelsey Williams (Philip), Kyle Cecil (Bonne), Nicole Wallace, Joshua Rowland, Sierra Crowe, Casey Davis Scharsich (Daniel), Caitlyn Davis; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua and Hannah Williams, Ezra, Eden and Oliver Cecil, Tristan and Rayna Draggoo, Cohen and Ellis Rowland; sister Betty Brummer; sister-in-law and dear friend, Jeannie Volante (he loved you dearly); and many nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid restrictions a private memorial service will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 in the chapel at Liberty Baptist Church. After Covid restrictions are lifted we will have a celebration of AW's life at Sparetimes Bowling Center.

The family welcomes donations in lieu of flowers to either St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at https://www.stjude.org/donate, Animal Aide Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA 23666, or a charity of your choice.
